#19 - G'Day (finally using that one) from Adelaide, South Australia

Larry the Lobster, in Kingston  One blog is blurring into the next as we keep on the move. So we will try to catch up after skipping a day, sorry! We had a lovely day two in Robe. The wind had died down and the sun was shining, so off to the beach. Upon arrival at our beach house, I asked Robyn, our landlady, if the beach close by that we could walk to was good. Apparently it was small and became non existent at high tide so she suggested Long Beach. She made another comment, seemingly odd to me at the time but I didn't ask for clarification. She said, "...

#18 - Crossing into South Australia...that's a state not a country or a description

Thursday morning we quickly had a Continental breakfast and checked out of our B and B....only one of two accommodations I let Steve book totally on his own, and now I know who will be booking all our hotels from now on. Today on the road was not going to be nearly as beautiful or exciting, but our one big stop in Mt. Gambier proved better than expected, with a picnic of sourdough olive bread and local 12 month cheddar with a half a bottle of leftover Pinot Noir by the famous Blue Lake. This is a town of volcanic craters and sinkholes turned into beautiful sunken cave gardens. Checking that Steve was not 'drink driving', as the Aussies say, we headed for Robe, our destination for two nights. Now consider the difference in language here. We only have drunk driving where you must be below a legal impaired limit to drive. Here they take it far more seriously with a zero tolera...

#17 - Walas, Roos and Waves

We arrived in Melbourne late afternoon on Tuesday the 1st and hopped in the car to drive to Torquay, just a place to sleep so we could have a fresh early start on Wednesday to begin our road trip on The Great Ocean Road.                              We always love to go on a good road trip and this one was going to be, not about the food, or the accommodations, but the scenery. We planned four nights on the road to get from Melbourne to Adelaide and Day 1 and 2 were to be the best of coastal Oz. We headed out at 8am for Bell's Beach- this is THE surfing beach where the waves break big and far out and where all the competitions happen. The parking lot was full of young, fit guys striping down, putting on thier wet suits and heading down the steep path to the beach with their boards. It was a cold morning, probably around 53F but you would have thought it was a warm 85 as they ...

#16.1 - Answer to WTF #A2

Today, Dec. 1st is the first day of Summer here in Australia....stranger yet when compounded by the fact that Marci & I traveled to Melbourne where we got the first really cool weather of the trip ( 23 degree high - about 73F ), and since the long travel days usually have little interesting to share, I get the assignment to write while Marci recharges. So today, we will answer the WTF Quiz #A2. A reminder of the quiz photo: As always, many interesting guesses....some better, more creatives ones were:     • A hand sanitizer station (wow, thats a lot of sanitizing!)     • A water station for giving dogs a drink.. ??? I suppose because it is very hot and      dogs will drink from this dirty looking bottle     • And my favorite - a cooler spot for the milkman to leave your bottle of milk, in the shade.....because my French friend thinks we can still get milk delivered....  So, for the correct answer - firs...
